Retail Banking lawyer
The London Office of a large international bank that is based in the City requires a Retail Banking Lawyer.
As a Retail Banking Lawyer, you will act as a subject matter expert on all retail matters for the Bank. This role will involve close working with other members of the team and with the various business lines and departments. This is a highly commercial and interesting role that would suit someone who wants to be at the heart of both the business and legal team working on a range of legal documents to support the wider banking business.
Key responsibilities
- Subject matter lead on all retail matters and all retail products to Personal Banking Department and all the Branch network within the UK, including residential and buy-to-let mortgages, credit cards, and savings accounts
- Subject matter lead on Consumer Duty and attending relevant meetings, and liaising with all key stakeholders including Compliance
- Advise on corporate transactions
- Provide sound legal advice and support to the various departments and stakeholders in the Bank, including senior management, and the Branch network within the UK, relating to retail matters
- Identify need for external counsel where appropriate and allocating work accordingly between in-house and external lawyers, ensuring cost effectiveness
- Responsible for briefing and managing external counsel, ensuring adherence to budget and high-quality work product and deliverables
- Assist on broader, bank-wide legal risk management projects including drafting and implementing relevant policies and procedures
- Ensure prompt reporting and escalation of legal risk and relevant matters to HOD
- Manage competing work priorities and deliver high quality and efficient service to the Bank
Requirements
- Admission in England and Wales
- Solid in-house legal experience in the banking sector
- Experience in lease agreements and commercial property arrangements (desirable although not essential)
- Able to work in-house with a mix of professionals and stakeholders and in a fast-paced environment
- Able to work independently, applying commercial acumen and sound legal judgement
This will be a hybrid opportunity requiring 3 days based within the office (City of London)
Salary up to 85K + benefits and bonus.
